I was approached by a local building firm who was in need of a website. We met and discussed the business, the main requirements of the website, agreed a design language and outlined the content that would be required to populate the website.
It was agreed that the website should be have professional style, list all of the services offered by the firm, contain a portfolio of prior work, client testimonials, contain public company policies, and most importantly: a contact form.
The firm provided a comprehensive document containing the text and images for the website. However, there was only a low resolution digital copy of the logo available, so the logo was remade pixel-perfect to the original as a vector graphic allowing the the flexibility to export the logo in any size or colour variant.
An important feature of the website was that making simple content changes should be able to be handled by the firm, without requiring intervention of a third-party. To achieve this, the site was built using WordPress and structured so that the Services, Portfolio and Testimonial content are managed as Posts, which can be added and changed without requiring alteration to the structure of the site.
In order to display the variable content of the Portfolio and Testimonial sections, a dynamic post block was required, however, the default WordPress post block was not in keeping with the design language specified. So, I built a new WordPress block with a custom card style. This new block could be reused across the site for the Services, Portfolio and Testimonial sections.
Each Service, Portfolio and Testimonial item can be opened to display a full page of information, all of the content for which is easily maintained by the customer.
The final (and most important) part of the site is the contact form. The contact form is relatively simple, and simply forwards the data to a specified email address, but also incorporates data collection and anti-spam capabilities.
In addition to the website, Google Analytics and a Google Business profile were set up in order to drive and monitor traffic to the website.
